Unfortunately after season ended I rendered myself completely useless. About 12 weeks ago I ruptured an abdominal muscle and continued swimming on it, as i hadn't done all of my races for the season. In all the races from August-October this has given me jip. The Sea Pool Challenge finally finished me off and I had to get physio for it. Whilst swimming over the summer I really aggravated the injury causing it to get worse.
So now I'm finally getting treatment for it with it from Tammy at Alison Morton physiotherapy in Plymouth. So far she's she's been brilliant and is now gradually strengthening my abdominal muscles so I can get back up to full fitness again. Now I have to do daily exercises to strengthen the muscle that was ruptured. I've also had to wear K-tape for best part of 2 weeks, which finally came off Saturday. As much as I loved the fact I had cow style k-tape on my stomach, it's good to finally have it off.
I've also had some ultra sound done on it, which has helped it heal more. As well had some general body MOT too. I've had my thoracic spine mobilized and some of the knots in my back smoothed out. Have also been given some exercises to keep my thoracic spine inline.
But all in all I'm well on the mend and taking it easy for a month or two, which isn't such a bad thing! The full recovery period should be over by the start of November. And then a controlled wind up to normal. Will be back stronger and fitter :)
Happy Swimming all
