Things are a little bit different compared to the last time I posted about this. I had another Physio appointment last Wednesday (5/11/14), during the lead up to that my stomach had been aching and hurting at times. The scar tissue in my stomach also hadn't heeled as it should. And swimming regularly had been agitating it. So unfortunately since then I've been put on a complete break from swimming for 3 weeks to allow things to completely settle.
Since the start of not swimming, I've been sitting on a bike attached to turbo (so it's not moving and I can sit on it at home without twisting or putting my abs under strain) once or twice daily for roughly an hour a time to keep my cardiovascular fitness up. I've also had more treatment from the physio and not swimming has helped and there is now less scar tissue. I should be able to start swimming again by the beginning of December if not fairly soon after. However I'll be introducing myself to my swimming at a much more gradual. So I'll start off doing 30-45 mins every other day, see how that goes and then slowly build it up until I can get back into a much more normal training schedule. Things are looking up, I just have to make sure that I look after my health and my body, to make sure I can get shot of this injury. Be that through doing my daily exercises to strengthen my stomach or through making sure I get enough sleep (he says posting this at 1am!) From what the physio said I haven't caused any permanent damage, just have to air on the side of caution to start with. Can't wait to get back in the pool and swim with all my friends again. Happy swimming all André Fantastic news today,
Markes International (http://www.markes.com/) who provides technology for organic analysis made a final decision last week to back my channel swim by funding me £750 towards the fees. Thanks to Prof Steve Rowland (my tutor) at the University of Plymouth, I was put in contact with Alun Cole at Markes International. I've been in contact with Alun for the last couple of months updating him on my progress. And the company through him agreed to sponsor the swim! I'm extremely grateful for Steve & Alun's help with my swim and hope that I can do their support justice and have a successful swim! Happy Swimming all! André The 2015 season is still a little way off, but I've known for a little while what I want to get done next year, including the obvious!
The events are going to be a little sparser next year as it's more important for me to get the longer training swims in the sea. So in date order; -BLDSA Champion of Champions, Dover, Mid June -BLDSA Torbay, Torquay, start of July -BLDSA 2 Way Windermere, start of August -CSA Channel Swim attempt, Dover, Window starting 5th September There will also be quite a few 6 hour training swims chucked in, hence why I won't be doing many races. Plus these are not small distances, so need to allow for recovery. So I've kept it simple. Happy swimming all! Dolphin |
